I have always been a fan of Italy and the more we visit this beautiful country, the more I fall in love with it. After our visit to Cinque Terre in June last year, we knew we had to book another trip to Italy soon. I’m pretty sure visiting Lake Como have always been on my list of places to see. So the moment we decided on a short break to Italy, I instantly knew Lake Como here we come!
It’s not the biggest lake in Italy, but it’s definitely not small and therefore we decided to stay at two different hotels to see a little more of Lake Como. The first two nights we stayed at Darsena di Riva Grande and we were blown away. The building is literally on the water and all the staff were so welcoming and helpful. We had a lovely balcony where we had cheese, bread and wine every night while taking in the breathtaking beauty of the surroundings. Darsena di Riva Grande is located in the small and quiet town of Moltrasio and that’s exactly what we wanted. Peace and quiet = Relaxation. We took a ferry one day to visit the Pearl of Lake Como, Bellagio. It was what I expected and more. Beautiful cobblestone streets with a big variety of shops and obviously restaurants with the best pizza and gelato in the world…and don’t forget the Italian coffee.
We also decided to rent our own boat…best decision! I would definitely recommend this. It’s really easy to rent a boat, there are loads of different companies to choose from and it’s just a different experience to see everything from the lake in the privacy of your own boat. I think this was Liam’s favourite activity of the holiday (he took his job as captain very seriously haha), except maybe for eating gelato everyday! It was so much fun and it’s something that I will always remember.
The last 2 nights we stayed at Hotel Bellavista in Menaggio. Menaggio is a beautiful town against a mountain backdrop. Hotel Bellavista was also on the water with a swimming pool next to the lake, so you can just imagine what the three of us did for the next 2 days…..Yessss we were poolbound with prosecco, italian food, gelato and views for days.
On the last night we took a ferry to Varenna to have dinner, watch the sunset and eat gelato one last time in Italy before our next trip which will hopefully happen pretty soon!
Lots of Love
