Liam and I have been in South-Africa for a while now, and the main reason for this long visit was my brothers’ wedding in December.
My amazing new sister in law, Sonelda, asked my sister and myself to arrange her kitchen tea. What an absolute honour. Sonelda is such a wonderful person that we wanted to make her kitchen tea extremely special and something that she would remember forever.
Picking the theme was our first step. Sonelda absolutely loves delft blue décor and that made picking a theme very easy for us. Luckily for her we also happen to love delft and therefore we already had a lot of décor items we could use. This helped us keep our expenses low together with a lot of DIY elements.
We decided that we wanted a Delft Photo Wall, that would be the focal point of the day and the main element to build our other décor around.
The Delft Photo Wall was made by my talented sister, Minette, from Paper Envy. This was not only used as a photo wall but also a general background during the day. Paper Envy creates beautiful paper flowers for any occasion. It’s made with a lot of love, passion and attention to detail. At the moment it’s all hand cut and made by Minette, ensuring absolute perfection. She’s currently based in the Eastern-Cape, but couriers nationwide. Her flowers have been used for Newborn and Cake Smash Photo sessions, Wedding Arches and Photo walls. For all the Mommies reading this blog, her paper flowers are also perfect for a baby nursery, a little girls’ birthday party and room décor.
This gorgeous crystal crown for the bride to be was also made by Minette. Paper Envy makes the most beautiful floral crowns as well.
We decided to make an electronic invite using free graphic websites such as Canva and a few others. This gives you the option to choose from various free backgrounds which you can edit according to your colour theme. All other stationary like the name tags, tattoo station and polaroid guest book station was made the same way.
As a little ice breaker we played bridal emoji. This was so much fun, and brought a lot of laughter to the day. We had little gifts that we handed out to the Top 6. This is something anyone can easily make to bring energy and fun to a bridal shower. There are so many other similar games that you can choose from on Pinterest and adapt to your event.
For the table décor we used delft vases that we already had and sprayed empty glass coffee containers with Rust-Oleum metallic warm gold spray paint. The delft plates, underplates and blue wine and champagne glasses was also décor that we already had between myself, my sister and our mom. All the flowers were picked from the garden.
Sonelda’s Mom made the day extra special by giving Sonelda the most beautiful pink antique vase that’s been in their family for over a 150 years and passed on from mother to the eldest daughter. She had everyone in tears during her speech.
It was truly a blessed day with family and close friends. Memories made to last a lifetime.
Sonelda we love you so much and could not have asked for a more beautiful new sister inside and out!
